Elton John Amuses Party Guests
Legendary singer Elton John sure knew how to party and dress! To be honest, the “Rocket Man” still does! But he was absolutely renowned for it back in the ’70s. The man has the most incredible repertoire of costumes and party photos and always seems to be having the best time.
Above, we see Elton John having a blast in 1974 while entertaining party guests by wearing some very quirky glasses that seem to be adorned with some kind of string. The most amused seems to befriend an actress, Nanette Newman, who was a huge film star in the 70s.
Princess Anne at a Ford Party
Even royals knew how to have fun back in the 1970s. Below we see none other than Princess Anne attending a banquet on December 19th, 1973. The princess is dressed to the nines in a gorgeous gown and hairdo and wearing a big smile (which maybe was the result of copious amounts of alcohol).
The banquet was thrown in honor of famous Scottish racing driver Jackie Stewart, who was retiring from an illustrious career in motor racing. Ford organized the party, so you can imagine there were all the best party favors, and all the attendees in the photo seemed to be wearing chauffeur caps in honor of the racer and looked very entertained.

Johnny Carson at The Tonight Show’s 10th Anniversary Party
Before Jimmy Fallon and Jon Stewart, there was Johnny Carson, otherwise known as the godfather of American show hosting. During the 70s, Carson was one of America’s most famous T.V. personas, the star of The Tonight Show, and also a comedian, producer, and writer of the show. Being a good show host goes hand in hand with being a people person and loving social events.
Above, we see Carson at the Tonight Show’s 10th-anniversary party in 1972, alongside his wife Joanna Holland and famous attendees like director Bobby Quinn. Drinking champagne, dressed to impress, and in a very fancy venue.
Barry Manilow and the Golden Girls
The 70s wouldn’t have been the same with songs like ‘Mandy’ and ‘Could It Be Magic.’ These and dozens of other chart-topping hits made singer Barry Manilow one of America’s most famous music artists. And the man sure loved his parties. Back in the day, Manilow was quite a looker, as you can see here.
Above we see the Manilow himself dressed in groovy 70s patterns and some stylish, yellow-tinted glasses. He and the lovely-looking, golden-dressed girls, were at Manilow’s New York apartment in 1975 for a party the singer was throwing. He sure did know how to throw down back in the day.
Bob Crewe Living it Up at a Brazilian Nightclub
Now, this guy looks like he knows how to party. Below we see Bob Crewe with a friend partying in 1977 at the famous Brazilian-themed nightclub, Cachaca, in NYC. Bob Crewe was the American singer, songwriter, dancer, and record producer behind some of the 60s and 70s most famous songs.
He and Bob Gaudio wrote the famous “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” performed by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. Crewe and Gaudio went on to write several Top 10 singles for the Four Seasons, believe it or not. Crewe was also involved with the music group Disco-Tex and the Sex-O-Lettes.
Morgan Freeman
No introduction is needed here, as we are all familiar with actor Morgan Freeman and his stellar acting career. The star of movies such as “The Shawshank Redemption” and “Se7en” is renowned for having been something of a late bloomer in Hollywood. So it’s funny to see him in his younger years.
Apart from being a brilliant actor, he also knew how to party hard when the occasion called for it. Above, we see Freeman with his wife Jeanette attending the premiere party for the Broadway show “Might Gents,” where he starred. The year was 1978, and the Freemans were ready for a very fun night.
Jamie Leigh Curtis Parties in Roller Skates
We’re used to seeing this one getting chased around by a mask-wearing serial killer in the dark of night. But in reality, this Hollywood star had plenty of carefree, fun-loving nights during this glorious time. The “Halloween” film series star Jamie Leigh Curtis also had her share of fun back in the 70s.
In the photo below, the daughter of gorgeous and famous parents, Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis attends a roller-skating party in December of 1977 in Los Angeles. In this photo, Curtis is the epitome of the 1970s, rocking her knee-padded denim, freshly cut bangs, black suspenders, and a very cool t-shirt that read “Crosby’s killers.”
Rod Stewart and Alana Hamilton Loved Their Disco
Former model and actress Alana Hamilton and famous singer husband Rod Stewart look way too cool in these neon-disco outfits. The fact that they are both blonde and dressed in bright purple just makes it all the more noticeable. It’s as if they were completely made for each other – at least that’s the way we look at it.
In the photo, the couple attends British actress Jacqueline Bisset’s birthday party in 1979 at the famous Flipper’s Roller Disco in West Hollywood. We bet the stylish couple was turning heads that night with their fittingly disco-themed attire. Even their birthday gift looks stylish!
Ann Turkel Knows How to Boogie
The stunning actress and model Ann Turkel looks as disco as possible attending Jacqueline Bisset’s 35th birthday party. The shorts and high socks are perfect for a fun night at Flipper’s Roller Disco, a popular club in California back in the 70s. She definitely knew how to rock the party attire during this fun-loving period in history.
Turkel starred in several horror and sci-fi films back in the 1970s and was married to famous Irish actor Richard Harris until the early 80s. Nowadays, the party girl lives with her two dogs in a beautiful mansion in Beverly Hills. Sounds blissful.
Tom Jones Celebrates His 34th Birthday
When we think of the legendary singer Tom Jones, we immediately start humming his 1965 hit “It’s Not Unusual” in our heads. The robust baritone-voiced Welsh singer became huge in America during the 60s and 70s, producing several chart-topping hits over the course of that iconic time.
Here, we can see Jones celebrating his 34th birthday with a delicious and huge birthday cake, surrounded by all his friends. The friends include celebrities like Joan Rivers, Sonny Bono, Dionne Warwick, Debbie Reynolds, and Liberace, all living it up at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas in 1974. Now that sounds like a fun crowd.
Andy Warhol Parties with Paloma Picasso
Pop art legend Andy Warhol was often seen out in the town attending high-society events and mingling with Hollywood’s most famous. He knew how to work hard, be creative, and have a good time, sometimes all at the same time! Here he is seen having a casual chat with fashion model Nicky Weymouth and Pablo Picasso’s daughter, Paloma Picasso.
The three personalities are attending a party thrown for Warhol by the famous fashion house Yves Saint Laurent in Paris. Imagine what Paris was like for people like Andy Warhol back in 1974, or where these three went after the party.
Diane Von Furstenberg Enjoys a Ciggie with Yves Saint Laurent
The Von Furstenbergs enjoy a stogey while chatting with legendary fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent at one of his parties in 1972 – as you do. Prince Egon von Furstenberg seems to be having a blast, while his wife, famous designer Diane von Furstenberg seems to be pretty in love with her cigarette.
Socialite Diane always looked glamorous wherever she went, even making Yves Saint Laurent and his quirky bowtie look average. Imagine being able to upstage one of the most important people in fashion of the last 100 years. The two brilliant fashion designers often collaborated together and were close friends, and we bet their parties were amazing.
John Wayne Attends a Reagan Benefit Dinner
No actor was the embodiment of the old-school, silent American hero like John Wayne. It was hard to watch a Western film from the 50s, 60s, or 70s without John Wayne starring in it. But as hard as he worked, the actor also knew how to blow off some steam.
Above, we can see Wayne attending a benefit dinner for Ronald Reagan in 1970 when he was campaigning to be Governor of California. Next to Wayne are entertainer Bob Hope, Ronald Reagan himself, Dean Martin, and the legendary Frank Sinatra. The dapper group of gentlemen seems to be having quite the time.
Frank Sinatra Parties in Las Vegas
A star-studded guest list attends a 1979 party in honor of the great singer Frank Sinatra. The event was held in Las Vegas, and amongst the infinite guest list, we can spot famous actor Cary Grant, Dina Merrill, the great Frank Sinatra, and Dean Martin. You can rest assured that Frank was churning out some classic numbers like “New York New York.”
They all look like proper, old-school Hollywood glamour, which was a nice sight to see in the disco and groovy parties of the 70s. This photograph could have been taken at any 1950s Hollywood party, and we wouldn’t know any better! Just goes to show how iconic Sinatra was.
Alice Cooper Promotes His Album
American rock musician Alice Cooper has rocked stages worldwide for five decades, and it seems hard to find a photo of him where he doesn’t look 60 years old. However, there was a time when Cooper was young, like in the 1975 photo below. We actually see a hint of youth in the “Poison” singer.
A very happy Alice Cooper poses next to actor Peter Sellers and British actress Jeanette Charles (who often played Queen Elizabeth II in the Austin Powers films). The three individuals were at a party in the U.K. promoting Cooper’s new album, Welcome to My Nightmare.
Goddard and Crawford Get Cuddly
Two of Hollywood’s Golden Age stars show their love for each other at an event in 1970. Actress Paulette Goddard is sitting down while fellow actress Joan Crawford scooches down to pose next to her for a photo. It all looks like love and memories being shared between the two.
Goddard starred in over 60 films during the 30s, 40s, and 50s, next to greats like Charlie Chaplin and Eddie Cantor. Her friend, Joan Crawford, was also a huge star of the Golden Age, having a lead role in MGM classic films like “What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?” Icons.
A Beatle and A Model Knew How to Party
Even though ex-Beatle and legendary guitarist George Harrison had a famously tempestuous marriage with model Patti Boyd, the couple did last 11 years. So you could say that was something of an achievement. And we bet going to those great parties helped smooth things out a bit.
Above, we see George Harrison with his first wife, Patti Boyd, attending a party in 1971. The British rock and roll artist had a long hippie beard that fitted in perfectly in the 70s, and Patti, who always looked gorgeous, was donning a gorgeous choker necklace. Of course, George ended up getting super spiritual.
